Letters to our Sons | June 2013

Dear Ethan,

You turned three last month and I still can’t believe how the time has flown by. I feel like you were just the tiny little newborn we brought home from the hospital. Now you’re no longer a baby, no longer a toddler really, but a full-blown kid. You are learning new things at an alarming rate. The amount of things you know astounds me. You’ve got a ton of vocabulary under your belt and you’re even picking up some Spanish from watching “Handy Manny,” or “Manny and the Tools,” as you call it. You are turning into a really great big brother. You love your brother so much and are starting to become more patient with him and are making sure that he is happy and taken care of, often telling us that he needs his paci or “you need to nurse Brother, Mom.” You often hold his hand in the car and sooth him when he gets upset. You are very into building things lately. Legos, blocks, and forts and caves are the construction of the day around here. And you love wrestling with your daddy. It is so fun to hear your squeals of delight from the other room when as you rough house with Daddy, especially when you call him a “fat rat” and drag him off to your “fat rat cave.” You crack me up! As usual, you are so full of energy. You love playing outside with water and just running, jumping, and dancing around the house.

At your three year check-up, we discovered that you are already 41 inches tall! You were so excited to hear that because it means that you could finally ride Radiator Springs Racers at Disney’s California Adventure. And ride it you did – twice! You loved it, although you reported it was a “little scary” but you wanted to go again. You even went on Tower of Terror with Mommy and Auntie Jill – and you didn’t even cry!

Being your mom is quite often a challenge. You are a stubborn little thing, and meltdowns are not as few and far between as I would like. But being your mom also brings me great joy. You are smart and fun and I thank God every day for giving you to me. I love you kiddo.

Love, Mommy
